Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Accelerates Pakistan’s Green Revolution with Ambitious Environmental Projects

The Green Silk Road, a global initiative, was emphasized by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The forum, with a theme of Green Silk Road for Harmony with Nature, brought together over 400 participants from 40 countries to discuss the progress made in the past decade.

Speakers highlighted the importance of “Green Development,” which has been driven by projects like China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Pakistan, for instance, experienced significant changes in its green transformation, including the development of solar and wind power facilities. Chinese solar solutions company LONGi has announced plans to reach 2 gigawatts of solar capacity in Pakistan, and Pakistan’s solar energy market is projected to grow significantly in the coming years.

China’s involvement in green projects extends to various BRI partners, with investments in advanced supply chains. China’s status as the world’s largest producer of solar panels and wind turbines, along with its leadership in new energy vehicles, positions it as a leader in sustainable energy promotion. The export value of China’s green technology products, such as solar panels and electric vehicles, has seen substantial growth.

Furthermore, LONGi has launched a manufacturing presence in Malaysia with its Serendah Module Plant, creating local job opportunities. In 2022, LONGi provided essential equipment for photovoltaic projects in Central Asian countries, contributing to reduced carbon emissions. These initiatives exemplify the global shift toward sustainable and green energy solutions promoted through the Green Silk Road.
